Change the spacing for a variable

Overview

The spacing controlling a variable's prompt and answer and be specified

Steps

  1. Open the Variable Update window (click here for steps)
  2. Select the Layout tab
  3. Left Column Width: can be used to create padding between where the prompt ends and the answer begins
  4. Right Column Width (not commonly used): can be used to create padding to the right of the answer prompt
  5. Prompt Width: the amount of space allocated to the data entry prompt
  6. Answer Width: the amount of space allocated to the answer

Notes

  1. On the Preview tab check the box for Show Columns and/or Show Prompt/Answer to view the space allocated using the color coded legend
  2. Just above the variable group name is a pixel rule for reference
  3. If similar changes are needed to many of the variables, change the width values for the Variable Group layout
