Layout Template Type for Subject Portal

Overview

A vertical layout template for the variable group provides the most flexibility for subjects to enter data on any device. Based on the variable group design, a horizontal layout can also be used. A horizontal layout displays the question prompts and answers on the same line and centered on the page. When viewed on a device with a small screen, the questions will wrap to a vertical layout.

Steps

1. Open the Variable Group Update page (click here for steps)

2. Select Layout in the left panel

3. In the Layout Template Type field, click the dropdown arrow to select the layout for the variable group

   1. Vertical is typically the best layout to use

   2. Matrix is not recommended as it may cause the subject to scroll if viewed on a small screen

   3. User Defined should not be selected as it is being phased out

   4. Special formatting (e.g. tables) should not be used so that variable group can be entered on any size device (e.g. phone, tablet, laptop)

4. Click Save or Save and Return
