Steps to verify a data dictionary prior to sending to ScienceTRAX for import into StudyTRAX

Most of the steps below can be easily completed by using the Data / Filter feature in Excel

  1. The Variable Group name is the same for all variables that will be on one form
  2. The Variable Group Description, if used, is the same for all rows with the same Variable Group
  3. The following columns can NOT be blank
    1. Variable Group Name
    2. Variable Name
    3. Category
    4. Type
    5. Code
    6. Required
    7. Active
    8. Exportable
  4. Variable Name:  must be unique
  5. Variable Code: must be unique and cannot have any special characters, use only letters, numbers, and an underscore (a code cannot start with a number)
  6. Checkbox variable type
    1. The following columns MUST be blank
      1. Min Value
      2. Max Value
      3. Length
      4. Pick Lists
      5. Missing Values
    2. The Required column must be "No" 
  7. Date variable type
    1. The following columns must be blank
      1. Length
      2. Pick Lists
      3. Missing Values
  8. Numeric variable type
    1. The following columns must be blank
      1. Length
      2. Pick Lists
  9. Pick List or Radio Button variable type
    1. The following columns must be blank
      1. Min Value
      2. Max Value
      3. Length
      4. Missing Values
    2. The following column must have a value (in addition to step 3)

    1. The following columns must be blank

  13. Numeric Calculation variable type:  set up calculations as numeric variables in the data dictionary, the calculation will be added in StudyTRAX
