  • The default when Variable Finder is initially opened is to display all applicable variables
    • Depending on the user's preferences and number of variables, the list may contain multiple pages
  • Searching with the Find box
    • Select a variable group or category from the Find drop-down list to display only variables from the selected variable group selection

      System variables are only displayed if applicable within the project and page

       
      • Select an individual variable group to search within that variable group
      • Select SUBJECT VARIABLES to search within all the universal variable groups
      • Select Universal System Variables to search within the system variables across all projects (Reference ID and Subject Name) if they are marked as exportable within the project
      • Select PROJECT VARIABLES to search within all the project variable groups
      • Select Project System Variables to search within the system variables within the project (Project Specific ID, Site, Screening Date, Enrollment Date, Randomization ID, Treatment Code, Treatment Display Name, Treatment Name)

        Some variables are only displayed if applicable within the project

        Select ** Select *ENCOUNTER VARIABLES to search within all the encounter variable groups
      • Select Encounter System Variables to search within the system variables at the encounter-level
    • Projects with the Medication feature enabled:
      • In Data Sets and Filters the Find drop-down list will allow searching by Variable, Medication, or Medication Group
      • Selecting Variable will allow searching within variables
      • Selecting Medication will allow selecting the Dosage or Exposure (has ever taken) of all Medications assigned to the project
      • Selecting MedicationGroup will allow selecting the Dosage or Exposure (has ever taken) of all Medication Groups created in Data Sets
    • Enter a search term in the Keyword box and click on Go to search by the keyword entered
      • The keyword will search based on the selection in the Find list
      • If multiple keywords are entered, the search will return variables that match all keywords entered
      • If multiple keywords are entered and the Match ANY search terms box is checked, the search will return variables that match any of the keywords entered 
  • Selecting variables
    • In Data Set Calculated Variables and in Filters there is a column labeled Interval, click here for a description of the Interval column
    • To select all the variables returned from the search (includes variables on all pages), click on the  All Results
    • To select one variable at a time from the variables listed, click on the  next to the applicable variable
  •   Unassigning variables
    • Included Variables tab
      • Click on the Unassign icon

        Variables with a disabled unassign icon  are being used and cannot be removed


        Tip

        Click on the Find Usages icon   to see where the variable is being used

    •  Variable Finder tab
      • To unassign all the variables returned from the search (includes variables on all pages), click on the   All Results
      • to unassign one variable at a time from the variables listed, click on the  next to the applicable variable
