Installing StudyTRAX

Overview

If you are upgrading from a prior version of StudyTRAX, there are several steps that can be omitted as they were done for the prior version:

  • Create a service account
  • Register the MSSCRIPT.OCX
  • Install an SSL Certificate
  • Setup a maintenance plan

Installing StudyTRAX consists of the following steps:

  1. Verify System Requirements.
  2. Validate the Pre-install Checklist.
  3. Create a service account to run the StudyTRAX application under.
  4. Install an SSL Certificate

This is not required, but it is usually best to transmit all data securely between the user's browser and the web server.

  5. Download the latest version from the Downloads page

If you are using Windows 2008 R2, you must right click on the zip file and unblock it prior to unzipping it or a security exception will occur.

  6. Unzip the zip file to the directory where you want to install StudyTRAX.
  7. Create a web site (if not possible, a web application called StudyTRAX will work) whose physical path is the root directory that was extracted. If you already have a web site for StudyTRAX, you can change its physical path to the root directory that was extracted.
  8. On Windows 2008 and older version of the operation system, you will need to Register the MSSCRIPT.OCX.
  9. Open the website using http://localhost/StudyTRAX
  10. Configure StudyTRAX
  11. Setup a maintenance plan to ensure that the StudyTRAX database gets backed up regularly.
